The Personal Aerial Mapping System (PAMS)
PAMS is a complete package of hardware and software that makes it possible for a single operator to do aerial survey and mapping over small areas on-demand. PAMS is very flexible, using the same equipment and methodology to produce a quick overview map in the field, or to compute advanced 3-D surface height models and true orthophotos. The resulting map data is ideal for various GIS applications since it is uniform in scale and georeferenced to a map projection. With the PAMS system, a single person can quickly and easily complete a mapping mission which would otherwise require advanced planning and special expertise using conventional methods, this saves both time and money.
The PAMS system is not an experimental project or “do-it-yourself” kit, but rather is an integrated system specifically designed for aerial survey and mapping. It has been successfully tested over several years in a number of application areas by our development team and our customers.
The system is easy to operate for non-specialists with basic experience in R/C aircraft. Flight planning is very straightforward, using only an arbitrary rectangular area to specify a photo mission area of interest. The details of waypoints, photo strips and turns are taken care of automatically in the autopilot’s navigation code.

The various system components pack conveniently in rugged cases for transport in a vehicle or as checked baggage.
Our custom designed flying wing is very robust and is intended for professional use with takeoff and landings in typical field conditions. It is very wind tolerant compared to other aircraft with similar takeoff weight and flying speed. An elegance and simplicity of design makes it very reliable and easy to repair in the field.
PAMS is designed to operate within existing regulatory restrictions for unmanned aircraft and is currently approved for use in Sweden and satisfies permit requirements in several other countries. The system poses minimal risk to bystanders and other aircraft due to its small size and low kinetic energy plus generous use of soft materials in the construction.
