Company

SmartPlanes AB was founded in 2005. The company is based in Skellefteå, Sweden.
The SmartPlanes idea emerged from the Remote Sensing Laboratory at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Umeå where the founders worked with applied research in forest inventory and remote sensing. They also shared a hobby interest in model aircraft which quite naturally led to the concept of an unmanned aircraft to take aerial photos on-site for a number of applications in forestry. What quickly became apparent is that the same need could be identified in a large number of civilian applications and they could be addressed by essentially the same system, SmartPlanes formed to address this need.
SmartPlanes believes the success of this concept depends on packaging the considerable complexity into a system that is easy to use for the non-specialist. The system has to work in real-world conditions and produce results that are directly useful for the intended application. This is why we have involved external users and performed a large number of service jobs during the development of the PAMS system.
Today the PAMS system has proved to fulfill the expectations of our customers in several countries. We are pleased to be able to share it with others and continue in its development.
